Septarian nodules are unique and beautiful stones that were formed about 50-70 million years ago. The outside of a rough septarian nodule is quite plain, but once cut and polished, they have beautiful and intricate patterns and crystals inside. Septarian nodules are made up of several minerals – an outer, gray layer of limestone, yellow calcite and white/clear barite crystals inside, and veins of brown aragonite which give these stones their septated and “cracked” appearance.
This septarian nodule measures 8 inches in length and 3 3/4 inches in height.
