Tektite Glass Meteorite 40-60 grams #10636 Shape may vary

Up for bid is a cool piece of material called Tektite. This was found in the Guangdong Province, China. These rocks have a high silica content, and are also rich in oxides of potassium, calcium and aluminum. There are about 7-10 different shapes of tektites but the usual shapes are: round like a disc, teardrop. or ovoid. The surface may be smooth or rough. It is believed that Tektite is formed when a meteorite impact melts material from the Earth's surface and catapults it up to several hundred kilometers away from the impact site. The molten material cools and solidifies to glass.
