This is a Macraster echinoid fossil found in the Duck Creek Formation in Tarrant County, Texas. It dates back to the Cretaceous time period, approximately 100 million years ago. Echinoids (or sea-urchins) are hard-shelled, spiny sea creatures that came into existence in the Late Ordovician time period, about 450 million years ago, and many different types of echinoids still exist today.
