This is a genuine Iron Nickel Nantan meteorite. The weight of this meteorite is 1309 grams (2 pounds 14.2 ounces). It measures 4 inches in length, 4 1/2 inches in width and 2 inches in thickness. Included with the meteorite is a color information card and a certificate of authenticity.
Nantans contain a trace amount of chlorine which causes them to oxidize more quickly than other meteorites. That's what gives them their unique and beautiful brownish-red color. Due to this fact, we do not recommended cutting and polishing these pieces. They need to be protected at least once a year by soaking them in mineral oil. This is a great gift for meteorite collectors!
