This is a genuine Iron Nickel Nantan meteorite. The weight of this meteorite 2375 grams (abt. 80 ounces). It measures 5 inches in length, 4 inches in width and 2 1/2 inches in thickness at the thickest point.
Nantans contains a trace amount of chlorine which causes them to oxidize more quickly than other meteorites. That's what gives them their unique and beautiful brownish-red color. Due to this fact, we do not recommend cutting and polishing these pieces. They need to be protected at least once a year by soaking them in mineral oil. Included with the meteorite are a nice color information label and a certificate of authenticity. This is a great gift for meteorite collectors!
